Tough Paneer - OPS

This was written right after Jayalalitha's death and the political drama that ensued in Tamilnadu, especially when the normally subservient O Panneerselvam suddenly turned rebel


We called him subservient and we considered him dull
Even as we credited him for taming the Jallikattu bull

He didn’t do too bad weathering Vardah, the cyclone
But has the resulting popularity left him all alone?

His reticence was annoying and showed him as sissy
Even as the state was gobbled up alive by the gang of Sasi

The eternal stop gap man was considered too meek
Until he developed a spine and decided to speak

He might have been hiding his insults with tear and smile
And that may have endeared him to the rank and file

But spare a thought for state that is going through a slump
Becoming a shameful spectacle to the world and being compared to Trump

OPS might emerge the winner after throwing in his hat
But he should remember that the winner of a rat race is still a rat

The drama might get more interesting but the ride is getting rougher
Sadly we have to adjust to a palate of a Paneer that just got tougher.

I clicked this photo of a flower in my balcony garden. While we whine and complain about the difficulties of life, this flower was an inspiration in fighting the odds. Rising from a dirty mud-filled pot to become such a beautiful bloom is a story worth being told Mighty did I feel looking down from the perch Until an unseen threat left me in the lurch; Scared and scarred, of the impending doom Down on my knees,  sulking in the gloom; Humbled as I was, pushed to the dust As the eyes locked on earthy roots covered in dirt; Out came a stem bowed and bent Weight of its bloom seemingly adding to its torment; Pretty in pink, displaying strength in fragility A lesson so powerful, about thriving in adversity; It matters not, how often you fall or how bad you start All that counts is how tall you rise with the will of your heart ;
